The Brant Advocate Nominated for Shining Star Award
(BRANTFORD, ON – October 11, 2011) – The publishers of the Advocate in Brantford are pleased to announce that the publication has been named as a finalist for a Shining Star Tourism Award in the Promotion and Marketing category for Brand Identity.
“This is an incredible honour for our publication,” said Andrew Macklin, Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate. “To be recognized so quickly for the work we have done on the Advocate is very much appreciated.”
The Advocate debuted in the community on September 1st of this year and, since that time, has been very well received by the people of Brantford, Brant, Six Nations and New Credit. The publication is already in over 150 locations in those communities, and has been read in cities across Canada.
Social Media/Content Strategist Marc Laferriere is also pleased. “We’re doing our best to show off our community, both here and across the country. It’s amazing to see that our online efforts are also paying dividends with a lot of local and national traffic. Our little slice of the country is more dynamic than we often let on. We’d like to thank our faculty for sharing these interesting stories with the broader community.”
The Advocate features stories from a faculty of community-minded citizens from throughout Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations, and New Credit. Each month, stories are generated from a faculty of writers from across the community. The Advocate looks to them to talk to the community about what is important; the people and stories that the community feels need to be spoken for.
“It’s a pretty amazing feeling to be part of something like the Advocate,” commented Lucas Duguid, Publisher of The Advocate. “I still find myself amazed at how quickly this project took on a life of its own. My hope is the Advocate will help each of us to re-write the narrative of what it means to be from this community.”
The Shining Star Tourism awards take place on Thursday, October 13th at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts in Brantford. For more information, contact Tourism Brantford at 519-751-9900.
I am a consumer advocate. I use my private investigator license to assist consumers who are on low income….free of charge.__This affects all seniors who are caring for under age dependents while retired, and are collecting the OAS benefit while on CPP and OAS benefits._The social system requires that the benefit for the dependant on assistance is paid out to the person who is the care taker for the dependant on assistance. Today that is many pensioners caring for children under age 18
